Are contact-tracing apps worth the risks ?

Many countries are hoping to minimize future Covid risks with contact-tracing apps on smartphones, used to track people who have been in contact with infected patients and reduce further spread. Although contact-tracing apps seem an attractive idea for post-Covid, risks related to accuracy, low coverage among elderly or privacy might be too high. Inaccurate information could equally mislead HCPs and citizens. And while more than 70% of citizens in developed markets have mobile-internet subscriptions, that number is significantly lower among the elderly who are the most vulnerable to covid-19. In South Korea, a recent jump in Covid cases was linked to one person visiting gay nightclubs, which lead to a stream of homophobic reactions, and impact to privacy. #postcovid19 #digitalhealth Continue reading
