Medical devices manufacturers need to protect patients from cyber-attacks; California’s connected device security law is influencing FDA and could shape the market.


 

Thousands of Medical devices are already capturing sensitive patient data. Protecting those devices from cyber-attacks is paramount. Are manufacturers doing enough today ? A new law is being implemented in California, the most populous American state, that could attract FDA attention as regulators keep working on guidance addressing increasing cyber-security threats to medical devices.


New Connected Devices Security Law from California took effect Jan. 1. It that requires manufacturers provide connected devices with “reasonable security”, protecting consumers from hackers having access to those devices.


The FDA is keeping a eye on the law’s implementation, while further developing its own recommendation on cyber-security of medical devices...
